Laymon/Layman/Lemon DNA Project

How Can You Participate in The Laymon DNA Project?

To begin with, you need to be a male (since women don't have a Y-Chromosome) with the Laymon/Lemon/Lehman/Layman/Lyman etc. surname (there are at least 25 spellings that I have come across in my research).  There is no need for brothers or first and second cousins to take the test.  Your Y-Chromosome and your brother's should be identical.  If you are a female, please encourage your male cousins, uncles, fathers brothers etc. to participate.

It would be very helpful if you have traced your family line back a number of generations.  If you can trace them back to Scotland, Ireland, France, England, Holland, or Germany, so much the better!  If you live in Scotland, Ireland, France, England, Holland, or Germany that is even better.  If, however, you know nothing about your ancestors, participating in this study can help you concentrate your future research on the right line.

If you are interested in participating, contact me at slaymon@lightspeed.net and I can supply you with a test kit.  The current price for the DNA test is 125 Pounds Sterling ($245 at present exchange rate)/person for our large study group.

When your test kit comes, simply follow the instruction.  Taking the DNA sample is as simple as brushing your teeth, only you brush the inside of your cheek instead.  Then mail the kit and check to me and I'll submit it to the Lab.  There is about a 5-week turn-around time once you me your sample.

When I get your results, I will notify you by e-mail me the series of 10 numbers that Oxford Ancestors and will soon after send you the results packet from the Lab.  I will also post your lineage and how you fit in with other family lines on our web site.

There are several other labs that do Y-chromosome testing, but for the results to be comparable with one another, we all need to use Oxford Ancestors.  The reason for this is that each lab uses different loci to test.  We all need to have the test done on the same loci for the participant's results to be comparable.

Check out the Lines We Need in the Study page.

Please e-mail me if you have any questions.  My e-mail is slaymon@lightspeed.net
